THE DOMESTIC COMPOSTING,ALSO CALLED « COMPOSTING IN HEAP »:
It is question to gather the various compostable waste on the ground and to make a heap. You can also use a wooden hooping to contain the waste.
The advantage
- easy to do,
- requires less follow-up than with a compost bin,
- waste are visible, it is thus easy to see the evolution – the admixture of the waste is easy.
The inconveniences
- a slow composting time (minimum 9 months),
- exposure to the climatic factors which can slow down the process of degradation (drought, frost….),
- the heap stays within the reach of the animals which can spread about the waste
- requires many place.
THE INDIVIDUAL COMPOSTING
By means of an individual compost bin, you just have to well select your waste and to put down them in this bin while respecting some indispensable gestures.
The advantage
- a reduce size,
- avant composting (6 months),
- fewer visual pollution – out of reach of the animals,
- shielded from the climatic factors.
The inconveniences
- a volume constraint in case of important quantities of waste
- requires a regular follow-up to avoid unpleasant smells – the admixture of the waste is sometimes delicate in the compost bin.
The SICTOM Pézenas-Agde chose for you a recycled plastic individual compost bin of a 325 liters volume, ideally conceived for the private housing environment. Its dimensions are 73 centimeters wide by 73 centimeters long and 82 centimeters height.
It has an articulated lid, perfectly ergonomic, and 2 trapdoors to allow getting back better the compost. The dark color of the compost bin resists better against UV. It absorbs better the heat of the solar radiation, what optimizes the composting conditions.
Besides your composting bin, a mixer-ventilator and a biobucket will also be supplied to you, as well as the small practical guide of the composting. The mixer will make you easier the tasks of mixture, aeration and decompression of the various layers of compost what will help in the decomposition.
The 10 liters biobucket completes the compost bin. This small plastic bucket will allow you to keep apart your kitchen waste before putting them in your compost bin.
The ideal place for your compost bin is outside in a semi-shaded place, sheltered from the wind and not too far from your house to be easily accessible in winter.
